A Jim Wells County jury found Timothy Trevino, also known as "Sugar Bear," guilty of barratry on Tuesday and sentenced him Wednesday to three years in prison.

About 75 Jim Wells County property owners sought answers Monday night from the county appraisal district as to why they received notices that their property values had seemingly absurd increases - as high as 1,000 percent, by some accounts.

An illegal immigrant bailout in Jim Wells County led Sheriff's Deputies to a load of marijuana.

Bailouts and drug busts reportedly happen, almost on a daily basis in Jim Wells County.

"They're going to fix some things that are wrong inside the jail," said Jim Wells County Sheriff Oscar Lopez, adding that he did not know how long the work would take.

Several people were taken to the hospital following an accident involving illegal immigrants in Jim Wells County near the Duval County line.

After several hours of surveillance, the pursuit was on. A smuggler loaded down with illegal immigrants in an SUV last month tried to outrun a trail of law enforcement vehicles, with more waiting up ahead on Highway 281 north of Falfurrias.

Javier Garcia, 53, who was being held Monday at the Jim Wells County Jail, also had an outstanding warrant for a previous drunken driving conviction.
