With all the drug probs in prisons, is there any doubt employees, teachers guards, etc, are bringing the dope in? Why aren't employees searched daily upon entering work like anyone else entering? The lure of easy money is too much temptation for many to resist. The honor system doesn't work.

Where are they getting the money to buy the drugs? I thought there was a limit on the amount of money a prisoner has access to. It would seem that if you could elimante the money then you would not have a drug problem in prison. But then there would always be GF's/family members who could give the money to a guard outside so he/she could supply a prisoner. Well at least that genius got caught and freed up a job.

This is just another argument FOR privately managed prisons. Like most things , State managed prisons are sloppy in order.Too much "job security" among all who work there.COM PLANENCY I believe is the term.

I would agree that privatization may improve SOME state services. There are many reasons; Florida's rules and regulations prevent innovation and instant improvements, a large percentage of purchases must be given to minority businesses(usually inferior products), if you don't spend it you lose it (which is absurd), legislators makes rules and requirements without considering or consulting with those it will directly impact. I have suggested many improvements within my own agency over the years. Mostly it falls on deaf ears or those that fear change and challenges. In the very rare case that a POSITIVE change is implemented it takes a very long time. State workers are not complacent; they are expected to swim in glue everyday. I would say that the state breeds MEDIOCRICY more so than COMPLACENCY. Let me put in perspective for those in the private sector so they might understand. I use to be a construction worker, so if I was working for a state ran agency; I would be given a rubber hammer for safety, five 5'$3 tape measures (instead of one 25'$6 tape measure), rose colored safety glasses for moral, the best screws available and a dollar store drill. I would also be given explicit instructions on how to erect my project that would defy the laws of physics. I would be compensated fairly for any resemblance of what I was requested to construct. If I went above and beyond with the best materials and construction, I would get the same compensation without so much as gold star. My 25 y/o foreman with an unaccredited college degree in painting with 6 months experience in construction is who I shall consult if any issues arise.

I have seen a few state workers as you describe/picture but the majority are well intended, ambitious persons who do more with less everyday. They would love to have the tools and freedom to perform effectively and efficiently. Also, if they are honest and not too embarrassed, ask them what their salary is. If you are not dismayed, then by all means please post.

I can assure the "suspended with pay" employees is always reserved for that non-career service. Yes, that means they were over compensated to begin with. Regardless this guy is an idiot and desrves his fate. One for being caught and two for assuming that he would not be.

WHEWWW..boy, i bet your'e tired! You make alot of good points, as you see it from the inside. To ppl. like myself when we see state workers leaning on their shovel, especially if we happen to be unemployed at the time, we are going to assume a little hostilaty. Then theyr'e dealing in drugs, higher-ups are taking expense paid trips that are really vacations. Theres about a dozen paid holidays a year, MLK day comes to mind.
From the outside it looks like a monster that grows and grows.
Now I'm tired!- Regards.
