Local man charged in robberies
By THOMAS JENKINS Staff Writer A Big Spring man is in the custody of the Howard County Jail today, facing several counts of aggravated robbery, including the gunpoint robbery of a local woman in a church parking lot Sunday evening, according to local law enforcement officials.

By THOMAS JENKINS Staff Writer Taxing entities in Howard County are breathing a collective sigh of relief, as Alon USA - the oil giant that owns the Big Spring Refinery - dropped its tax suit in 118th District Court, agreeing to pay taxes based on an assessment of $169 million.

Alon USA, parent company of the Big Spring Refinery, announced today that it has dropped the lawsuit it filed against the Howard County Appraisal District earlier this year, contesting an appraisal value of $169 million levied against the refinery for the current tax year.
