State officials have moved convicted serial killer Fred Waterfield from Okeechobee County to Hardee County because of population adjustments, security reasons and publicity related to last month's execution of David Alan Gore Waterfield, who is serving life in prison, spent the last three years at the Okeechobee Correctional Institution .

The Bradenton City Council agreed Wednesday to extend an inmate labor contract with the state's Department of Corrections for approximately $58,000. The contract provides for the employment of a correctional officer who supervises five Hardee County inmates assisting the city's Public Works and Utilities Department, according to city documents.

Bowling Green, Fla., located 77 miles southwest of Orlando, is in the northern part of rural Hardee County and has all of approximately 3,000 residents.
