Greensboro considers locations for parking deck to support downtown growth

The director of transportation for the City of Greensboro said his department has identified the need for a new parking deck that could be built over the next two to five years at one of several locations to support downtown development projects. Adam Fischer , the city's director of transportation, said there are no immediate plans to fund or begin construction on a project that could cost around $8 million for a 500-space deck to support the planned $100 million Union Square Campus or a $15 million, 900-space deck at the corner of Eugene and Washington streets to support growth around City Hall and the Guilford County courthouse.

Friends remember App State student

The gathering was initially scheduled as a prayer vigil in hopes of finding Anna Marie Smith, but it turned into a candlelight vigil to honor her. Police said human remains were found Saturday morning in some woods at the west end of the town, along with Smith's North Carolina driver's license and student identification card.

More of High Point Road could become Gate City Boulevard

A stretch of High Point Road and Lee Street in Greensboro -- including the portion fronting what will be the Union Square Campus downtown, shown here -- has already been approved to change its name to Gate City Boulevard. The Guilford County Planning and Development board will hold a public hearing Wednesday to discuss changing the name of a portion of High Point Road to Gate City Boulevard.

An investigation has been implemented by Surry County Health and Nutrition Center regarding contacts to an identified active Tuberculosis case at Wayne Farms LLC. This type of investigation is not rare, and is done periodically by the Surry County Health & Nutrition Center's Communicable Disease Department. On Aug. 28, Surry County Health and Nutrition Center was notified by Guilford County Health Department of a Guilford County resident who was suspected to have active Tuberculosis, and is employed by Wayne Farms.

Series of crimes in three counties ends when suspect ODs

From Saturday night into Sunday morning, law enforcement officers from Rowan, Guilford and Edgecombe County were alerted to the alleged crimes of Montannez Antonio Moody, 33, of 545 Newell Street in Concord. At one point, Moody was the subject of a statewide all-points bulletin.
