Grand, San Juan officials to develop plan for La Sal Loop Road repairs

Lessons learned from a failed attempt to rebuild the La Sal Mountain Loop Road in 2001 were rehashed as officials from Grand and San Juan counties, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Federal Highway Administration, met last month to begin a process to repair the road before the cost of maintaining it gets out of hand.

Worker injured in accident at Atlas cleanup site

A worker employed by Envirocon suffered breaks of both tibia and fibula in his left leg last week when a roll of plastic sheeting fell on him while he was working at the Atlas uranium mill tailings cleanup site north of Moab, according to Department of Energy spokesperson Wendee Ryan.

An Idaho man died while mountain biking in Moab on Friday, police said. Todd Johnston, 42, of Ketchum, was on the Gold Bar Rim Trail when he complained of being tired and told his friends he wanted to walk his bike, Grand County sheriff's deputies said in a news release.
