Garrett makes legislative requests

The Garrett County commissioners asked Sen. George Edwards and Delegate Wendell Beitzel for legislative help in matters ranging from the power of its Emergency Services Board to requirements dealing with wind turbines to the ability to sell the houses of citizens who don't pay their water and sewer bills.

Garrett rental operators oppose hotel tax increase

Garrett County Administrator Monty Pagenhardt said he was surprised by the amount of opposition Tuesday from local rental housing representatives to the county commissioners' request to be able to increase the hotel rental tax from 5 percent to 8 percent.

Inmates to clear hiking trail near B-52 bomber crash site

Several inmates of the Western Correctional Institution are scheduled Tuesday to begin clearing a 3-mile section of the Big Savage Hiking Trail that will lead to the site where a new memorial honoring the crew of a B-52 bomber that crashed in 1964 will be placed on public land.

Allegany County wants to join Garrett in natural gas revenue

What's good for Garrett County is good for Allegany. At least, it could be. So said the Allegany County commissioners, who requested Friday that the county's delegation to Annapolis introduce legislation that would force producers of natural gas to pay a 5.5 percent tax at the point of production.
