Driver safety encouraged as sugar beet harvest begins

Slow-moving trucks entering the highway from agricultural fields will be the norm in the coming months as the sugar campaign begins in Fremont County and the Big Horn Basin. Local farmers are expected to begin digging beets soon; in other areas, such as near Lovell, the sugar campaign has started.

G&F investigating specifics of fatal bear attack north of Dubois

The Wyoming Game & Fish Department has officially released a statement about the recently confirmed fatal bear attack north of Dubois. Lander Regional Wildlife Supervisor Jason Hunter stated, "we will continue to do everything within our means to assist in the investigation and to ensure public safety.

Free festival unites fiber arts vendors and artists Oct. 4 in Riverton

Fiber arts enthusiasts will get a chance to shop and learn about new crafts during a free event October 4, in Riverton. Fiber Fest, sponsored by the Fremont Fiber Arts Guild, will include classes, door prizes, homemade refreshments and vendors from around the state, including Wyoming Wool Works of Dubois.

Dubois SAR concludes following discovery of deceased individual

The Fremont County Sheriff's Office has concluded a nearly one-week-long Search and Rescue Mission for a missing Utah man as of Yesterday Fremont County Volunteer Search and Rescue Members with the Sheriff's Office located the deceased remains of a person approximately 3 nautical miles north of the missing person's camp around . Investigators with the Sheriff's Office flew into the area yesterday afternoon to begin their investigation.

Coroner: Man shot by officer was intoxicated

The Fremont County Coroner's Office says Justin Steele's blood-alcohol content was 0.302 percent when he was shot in the chest July 29. That's almost four times the legal limit for driving. The Riverton Ranger reports the Pavillion man also tested positive for a drug used to treat anxiety and panic disorders.

Weather Hinders Search for Missing Man

Pavillion man shot by law enforcement was three times over the legal limit for alcohol

A man shot dead by a Bureau of Indian Affairs Wind River Police Officer died as the result of a gunshot wound to the chest, according to a verdict and case docket released today by the Fremont County Coroners Office. The victim, Justin Steele, 26, was intoxicated at the time with a blood alcohol level of 0.302 percent, nearly three times the legal limit.

UW Student Helps Riverton Engineering Firm Broaden its Geophysical Capabilities

A University of Wyoming student from Riverton made a big difference for a Riverton engineering firm this summer, especially for a project on Casper Mountain. Mike McClure, a UW senior double majoring in geology and geophysics and history, interned at Inberg-Miller Engineers, primarily as a borehole logger and to broaden the company's opportunities to apply geophysical testing to its work.

Honor Farm conducted emergency evacuation drill Wednesday morning;...

The Wyoming Honor Farm this morning conducted an emergency preparedness drill to comply with annual training requirements and goals, according to a news release from the minimum security correctional facility. "The drill is intended to simulate a real life situation designed to enhance the readiness of local agencies in the event of an actual emergency," the release indicated.

The search is still on for a man missing in the mountains above Dubois. Fremont County Undersheriff Ryan Lee confirmed this morning that yesterday's efforts had been unsuccessful.

Sen. Cale Case announces recent melanoma diagnosis

Lander State Senator Cale Case announced today that he has been diagnosed with melanoma, a serious type of what is typically a skin cancer. Case said the cancer was discovered after a friend suggested he have a spot on his scalp investigated.

Autopsy planned on woman who died at Fort Washakie jail; Dubois man died of heart attack

Fremont County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Stratmoen said there was nothing outwardly suspicious in the death of a 32-year-old female, presumed to be from Riverton, who died at the BIA Wind River Police Department jail Thursday night. Stratmoen said an autopsy will be conducted Satuday.
