Calhan residents react to shooting

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office still hasn't released the name of Monday's shooting victim, but the news has left the town in shock. "We saw the police cars go through then saw an ambulance go through, then another ambulance go through.

Rabbit Fever Found In Colorado Springs

Officials say a resident living in the Park Vista subdivision near Austin Bluffs and Stetson Hills alerted the health department after coming upon several dead rabbits. One of the rabbits was tested; the results came back positive for tularemia, colloquially known as rabbit fever.

A rapidly spreading virus has possibly reached a local preschool.?? Widefield School District 3 sent a letter to parents saying a North Preschool employee is showing symptoms of Enterovirus D68.?? The virus can appear like the common cold. Symptoms include wheezing, cough, and difficulty breathing.

Authorities have detained four people for questioning after a man was shot to death at a home in Calhan on Monday afternoon, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Deputies were called to the home on the 9800 block of Calhan Highway at about 12:30 p.m. on reports of a shooting.

2 Escaped convicts captured in Colorado Springs

Two convicts who escaped from a Department of Corrections work crew in Denver on Thursday were captured in Colorado Springs on Friday. Manual Rodriguez, 32, was arrested Friday morning at a convenience store in the 4000 block of Academy Boulevard, our sister station KRDO-TV reported.

El Paso County's Terry Maketa: I'm still the same sheriff

Terry Maketa, the embattled sheriff of El Paso County, said Friday that he knows little about a criminal investigation of his office and that no one has interviewed him. He said he expects to be vindicated and plans to finish his term, which ends in January, but "circumstances could change, and it could be in my best interests to leave early."

If you're calling 911 local authorities for help, be prepared to wait with a magazine while someone's breaking into your apartment or stabbing you. The local communications center is apparently so swamped with calls that it can't get to them very fast, so those who have to wait 10 seconds or more will get a message.

Council sinks to new low over Jones Park

The meeting started on a lighthearted note, as Jan Martin sought to persuade Council to forward the Lodgers and Automobile Rental Tax Committee's recommendations for the 2015 budget to Mayor Steve Bach without changes. FBI, Colorado agents investigate El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa

Federal and state criminal investigators have joined a wide-ranging probe of El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa and his office, The Denver Post has learned. Agents with the FBI and Colorado Bureau of Investigations are providing help to Dan May, the district attorney in Colorado Springs, according to CBI spokeswoman Susan Medina.

Nationwide truck driver shortage felt in Colorado

The cost of resolving a shortage of commercial truck drivers across the U.S. likely will be passed on to consumers, experts say. According to the American Trucking Association, 30,000 new drivers are needed to replace experienced drivers who are leaving the profession for a variety of reasons.
