2 Escaped convicts captured in Colorado Springs

Two convicts who escaped from a Department of Corrections work crew in Denver on Thursday were captured in Colorado Springs on Friday. Manual Rodriguez, 32, was arrested Friday morning at a convenience store in the 4000 block of Academy Boulevard, our sister station KRDO-TV reported.

El Paso County's Terry Maketa: I'm still the same sheriff

Terry Maketa, the embattled sheriff of El Paso County, said Friday that he knows little about a criminal investigation of his office and that no one has interviewed him. He said he expects to be vindicated and plans to finish his term, which ends in January, but "circumstances could change, and it could be in my best interests to leave early."

If you're calling 911 local authorities for help, be prepared to wait with a magazine while someone's breaking into your apartment or stabbing you. The local communications center is apparently so swamped with calls that it can't get to them very fast, so those who have to wait 10 seconds or more will get a message.

The Colorado Department of Corrections is searching for two convicts who walked away from a work vehicle on Thursday afternoon. Manual Rodriguez, 32, and Adolfo Lopez, 38, left an intersection near a CCI distribution warehouse on Oakland Street in Denver.

Council sinks to new low over Jones Park

The meeting started on a lighthearted note, as Jan Martin sought to persuade Council to forward the Lodgers and Automobile Rental Tax Committee's recommendations for the 2015 budget to Mayor Steve Bach without changes. It seemed like a no-brainer, since Council will have another whack at the list when the mayor submits his budget in October - so why waste time arguing about it now? Federal and state criminal investigators have joined a wide-ranging probe of El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa and his office, The Denver Post has learned. Agents with the FBI and Colorado Bureau of Investigations are providing help to Dan May, the district attorney in Colorado Springs, according to CBI spokeswoman Susan Medina.
