Seven H1N1 deaths in Lubbock and surrounding counties

H1N1 deaths are now up to seven for Lubbock and surrounding counties. The Department of State Health Services says there have been five such deaths in Lubbock County, one in Floyd County, one in Cochran County.

Poverty rate daunting for South Plains, Panhandle

In 2007 nearly one of every four residents in Cochran and Crosby counties was poor, a rate twice as high as the rest of the nation, and in all likelihood the number of destitute people in those counties and in most of the South Plains increased last year.
