A woman and her children barely escape what could have been a deadly situation. Kentucky State Police say 33-year-old Kimberly Fernandez was trying to cross a set of railroad tracks near Hopkinsville in Christian County, when her car got stuck in the ice.
Indiana man arrested in Hopkinsville mother's beating death
<![CDATA[EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- An Evansville man has been arrested on charges he beat his 69-year-old mother to death. Authorities in Hopkinsville, Ky., say 29-year-old Jamal Mounts is being held in the Christian County Jail on preliminary charges of murder, first degree burglary, fourth degree assault and resisting arrest. Hopkinsville, Ky., police tell the Evansville Courier & Press reports (http://bit.ly/1n0HIcy ) that officers found Mounts assaulting a 69-year-old woman Saturday in an apartment complex in the city about 75 miles south of Evansville. Police found another woman identified as Mounts' mother lying dead nearby. Police say she died from blunt force trauma. Police believe that Mounts fatally beat her before officers arrived.
