UPUD proposes rate hike in Murphys

The district is proposing to increase its monthly base rate of $38 for up to 1,000 cubic feet of water to $41 starting Nov. 1. UPUD supplies water to nearly 2,000 customers in Murphys, Douglas Flat, Vallecito and the Carson Hill area, including the Calaveras County Fairgrounds.

Camille Withuhn, 27, of Sacramento was camping at the Golden Pines Camp Ground, in Dorrington, when she left on foot towards Highway 4. The Sheriff's Office reports that she is "voluntarily missing," indicating that she did not get lost, but purposefully left the area.
