Could somebody please explain to me why, if the Fire Department needs this rescue equipment, it should be a state and not local responsbility?

Prove me wrong

Could someone explain to me why every call to the fire dept results in 2 fire trucks and the EMT vehicle responding? Oh right, it's "policy".

That would be very easy to "prove you wrong" Any 911 emergency medical call results in the closest engine company,(1 fire truck) and one ambulance being dispatched. Since fire stations are located strategically throughout the city, their on scene time is under 3 minutes. Firefighter/EMT's can initiate critical life saving measures, i.e. CPR, defibrillation, oxygen delivery, cervical precautions, etc. This chain of survival is critical for a proper medical responce to occur.

You'll understand when they pull you out of your wrecked car with a two broken legs, a busted neck and broken and bleeding nose. I guarantee you'll have an epiphany "THAT'S why they have the latest and most efficient equipment" as they pull pieces of windshield from your forehead. And you're advocating the state pay for this? So the state should equip all local fire departments. Where will they earn the money for that?

It sounds like the Reps are angry because BSC and Jacobs Pillow didn't get cut. Would they be happier if they did?

But my point is, why should Boston pay for it? If it's so important for the Pittsfield Fire Department to have it, why aren't the taxpayers of Pittsfield paying for it? That's my only point.

You should turn some of that 'Common Sense' into 'Reading Comprehension', before you go into a useless diatribe next time you post. You didn't even answer his question you just asked it over again. Does that mean you agree with him? Eric: I'm not sure why the state pays for rescue equipment for local FDs. It is still sad that it gets cut and not money going to Tanglewood.

He didn't say they shouldn't have it, he didn't say the state should pay for it, he is saying yes they should have it but the TOWN should pay for it, NOT the state. Dumb as$

Yes, yes. I would like to hereby accept the jerkoff of the day award. I'd like to thank the 2008 All-Star game, for keeping me up until 1 a.m. Conventional work hours for requiring my presence and of course my own addled brain and, as many posters have pointed out, my lack of reading comprehension. I offer my fullest, and heartiest apologies to Eric, as he seems like a good sort and didn't deserve my scorn or sarcasm.
Eric, I buy you a "virtual" beer of cup of coffee. It's on me, or the state, whichever you prefer.

I can "prove you wrong" as my relative was receiving CPR for quite some time as it took forever for fire dept AND emt's to respond to my home with life saving defibulator. Upon arrival, finally, they walked so casually from their truck with that life saving devise knowing we needed it as we had to call 911 numerous times to see where the hell they were, and describe the situation that was unfolding. As I yelled to them to "hurry up" fireman told me, "relax lady". I will never forget, as my relative is a daily reminder of what could have been a better outcome had they arrived in "3 minutes". I guess when you can use the state's helicopter to fly to your second home in Richmond, you don't need to worry about people who actually live and work in the neighborhoods from which you derive rest and relaxation.
This is just the same ol' Eastern Mass. v. Western Mass. mentality. Maybe Albany would like to buy us? On the other hand, maybe that just changes one corrupt bunch for another.

There is nothing wrong with Pittsfield paying for its own stuff. Heck they get lots of free stuff for the "county" they don't share.
