Longtime Livermore residents joke with frustration that they would like to see BART service in their town before they die.

Just came from 5 weeks in europe through five countries and did not touch a car. We are far behind as a country when it comes to Metro and trains.

Pretty pathetic we still dont have Bart. I mean pleasanton has got one and there a smaller city than us! It seems although Livermore is bigger, has more people pleasanton still gets more stuff, for example:DMV , the Mall and a Court are all in plesanton! If they were in Livermore less people would have to commute, considering all the bussiness these places get from Livermore citizens! I think its time to change. Give the biggest city those things! no the little sleepy town!

I think that it is a good thing that Livermore is getting bart;however, we will have to share it with Brentwood, Tracy, Modesto, Oakley, Manteca, Lathrop, and everyone else in the valley. I hope that it does not bring crime and higher taxes. It appears that every other city that has bart shares it with a neighboring city. We have all the valley using Livermore bart as a pass through hub. I hope for the best for the city of Livermore.

Bring on the crime, the noise, the trash and the parking problems. Bring on the crap that goes along with BART. The worst thing for Livermore is the BART extension. So many people will come from "over the hill" to use BART as the rest of their commute. The freeway on ramps and off ramps will be jammed. The streets will be congested. Petty crime and vandalism will skyrocket. We do not want the visitors that BART will bring. Hope that BART and their hopeless board of directors never get their act together.

i think the people who will use BART are commuters, you know, working, people with jobs. Our streets, highways are already jammed. People on BART = less cars on the road. bring it on.

I appreciate the fact the working people will be using BART and that may free up some cars on the freeways. But, the surface streets leading to BART will be jam packed which leads to "alternate routes" through the neighborhoods which leads to more traffic and cars passing through streets that had little or no traffic in the past. Commuters do not drive 25 miles per hour through these neighborhood streets because that would defeat the purpose of the short cut. That creates dangers for kids and neighbors alike. The freeways may see a small decline in cars from Livermore to the west, but what about from the east to Livermore? There will be no change in traffic volume. The traffic will back up from the BART station to the freeway on-ramps and off-ramps. Communte hours will create congestion becasue of all of the working folk trying to get to and from BART. Once the commuters are finished, the pipeline to criminals without other means of transportation is open to Livermore. Jump on a train and ride from your crappy neighborhood to Livermore. Steal from the hard working and return to your government handout, welfare, drug infested, unemployed hell hole. That sounds great! Bring it on, huh?

"there will be no change in traffic volume" so why worry? BART is next to the highway so unless you live by it, no worries. I guess BART would be a good way to get home after commiting a crime? Don't get out much do you, Livermore Person.

I am sorry for putting so vaguely, getreal. Let me clear this up. The poor folk from neighboring towns, Oakland, Hayward, San Leandro, and other crime ridden ghettos are going to have easier access to nicer parts of suburbia. Now, instead of stealing a car, which they cannot afford to purchase, they will take BART. What happens is this: The ghetto folk take public transportation to the nicer parts of town because their hell hole is not safe, not clean, not nice. These ghetto folk show up in a nice, clean, safe place and still act like they are in the ghetto. They act tough and treat the nice place the same way they treat their rats nest. That is all they know. Now, we have ghetto folk congregating together, littering, smoking , drinking, doing drugs in the nice place which, in turn, makes the nice place not as nice because of the east access for the ghetto folk. Now, some of these ghetto folk are also criminals and thieves. There are no metal detectors or drug sniffing dogs on BART. Guns and drugs are easily concealed and groups of ghetto folk can make their way to and from the nice part of town via BART. There is less risk of being pulled over by the police. There is no need for a car to make it to a new group of people to sell your drugs. BART becomes a passage way between Crapville and Niceville and NIceville slowly deteriorates. Nothing happens to Crapville because it is difficult to make crap look less appealing than it already is. Get out more? I am out plenty and I do not like what I see in Crapville. That is why I choose not to live there and that is why I choose to voice my opinion against a free flowing sewer line to and from there.

Better check some facts... Your city counsel / mayor are the reasons some of those things aren't in Livermore.... Bet you didn't know the mall was supposed to be built in Livermore.... What about Ruby Hills.... check out the facts!!!!

No offense but I disagree with you, the traffic would not explode like you mentioned. Traffic in Dublin is not crazy like that, also a there is a new station being built. Castro Valley has the same back road situation and they are ok. As far as crime,it may or may not happen. Kind of hard to bring stolen merch. on Bart. Hire more Bart Police. Can't live in fear. I rather have the conveince of Bart right down the street than be afraid of the criminals that would use Bart just to go to LV to Robb, steal, and Rape.

No offense taken, Mike D. Dublin did tkae a traffic hit with the BART station. There is a huge influx of traffic between Hopyard/Dougherty and Santa Rita road. That is on either side of the freeway. If you have not had the pleasure of driving in those places during the morning or afternoon rush hours, you are a lucky man. Smash and grab thefts in parking lots around BART and in the surrounding business parking lots also went up. I do not think too much violent crime will come from BART, but the petty crimes, the traffic and the Ghetto Folk will. There is some good with BART, but in my opinion, the bad outweighs the good.

The entire BART corridor has crime, everywhere there is a station, if you did a pin type/scatter plot crime incident map it will produce a cluster near every BART station, except in places which are so crime ridden that the surrounding area is equally bad.
BART in Livermore will do absolutely nothing to benefit most of the people living in the Tri-Valley. If you live in Dublin or Pleasanton its not useful at all, and if you live in Livermore, you are already committed to driving - how many people live at the Greenville exit? None. There is a small development of homes in North Livermore, north of 580, and east of say, First Street (springtown exit), but that amount of people is not what is producing the traffic jams on 580, so BART in livermore will do zilch to reduce traffic and if anything like someone pointed out, it will actually become much worse, due to the BART users from the Central Valley (because that is primarily who will be using it), all trying to exit and enter 580 at Greenville, Vasco, and First Street.
Livermore has always been abused by cut through traffic, and the city managers have always been oblivious to the impacts on quality of life.
I hope that it never gets built too. Its a terrible idea. Why not put BART through to Tracy and the other Central Valley communities where the majority of the traffic on 580 originates? It would do a lot more good, and conserve a lot more energy than putting it in Livermore, and still having bumper to bumper traffic up and down the Altamont.
BART to Livermore...another stupid idea from stupid people.

Wow. There's a lot of great comments on here. It's always fun to see people from so many different walks of like come together on a topic. Some of you have valid points but I would sway with the side that leans towards bringing BART in, and the sooner the better.
For one thing, it is hignly unlikely that it could ever stretch out passed the Altamont and into Tracy, Lathrop, etc., without going thru Livermore first. So obviously, since that area has grown so much in popularity for many of our brothers and sisters looking for affordable Bay Area housing, I think it no longer becomes a question of if, but when.
Ok, so then there's the issue of crime, and other problems directly associated with having a BART station in your city. Personally, I would love it if more people could get out to downtown Livermore and see what is going on out there.. Forget about the criminal element for a minute, the good people, the curious, the aging, the bored......you know, "regular folk", would be pleasantly surprised by Livermore's Downtown. And it would be really good for local merchants and restaurants, etc, etc.
I wouldn't worry too much about additional street traffic and such, these things have a way of balancing out rather quickly.
BART allocates additional police on their own force with every new station. BART police also work directly and interchangeably with local law enforcement. I think the Livermore Police Department would be quick to recognize people who were "out of they're element" and would get the word out quickly to the "ghetto folk" as some put it, that Livermore is not just another pond on the BART system from which they can leach......

How is BART down the 580 median, with an exit only at Greenville, going to help people experience downtown which is 2 miles away? Are they going to call a cab? Hop on a bus? Its Livermore! People do not have destinations in suburbia. There is no industry to speak of within walking or biking distance. Put the BART in Tracy where the people coming over the Altamont can utilize it, and quit trying to use Livermore as a parking lot/staging area for the convenience of the Central Valley.

The best thing to do would be to build another lane in the freeway, and NOT a carpool lane which does absolutely nothing to reduce congestion.
