Columbia to move into Victoria's Secret Michigan Avenue location
Columbia Sportswear Co. said it has signed a lease to open a store at 830 N. Michigan Ave next year, currently the home of Victoria's Secret.
The maker of active outdoor apparel currently operates a flagship store in its hometown of Portland, Ore. It is in the midst of opening a network of branded stores over the next several years in metropolitan areas including Seattle and Minneapolis.
'The Magnificent Mile is one of the most famous shopping streets in the U.S. and features many of the most powerful brands in the world,' said Tim Boyle, president and CEO of Columbia in a prepared statement.
Columbia will be opening in the same block as H&M and Filene's Basement and across the street from Water Tower Place where American Girl Place is relocating this fall. The showcase sports store will occupy 11,175 feet on three levels and is slated to open in the late spring of 2009.
Victoria's Secret is expected to reopen a few blocks away at the site of a recently shuttered Pottery Barn, according to real estate brokers familiar with the plans.
