Manchester Police Use Tracking Device To Find Alleged Robber
A tracking device in a stolen bottle of Vicodin led police to a robber who they said has targeted a local pharmacy and one in Plymouth.
Detectives tracked the 'bait bottle' - stolen from the Westown Pharmacy at 455 Hartford Road late Thursday night - to the intersection of Main Street and Burr Road in Plymouth, police said. Manchester detectives coordinated with Plymouth police and arrested Frederick Faunce, 41, of Pine Hill Road in Thomaston, they said.
Faunce was arrested on burglary, larceny, criminal mischief and other charges stemming from Thursday night's theft of the prescription pain medication, police said. They expect to arrest him on more charges related to robberies in Manchester and Plymouth and another burglary in Manchester.
The other thefts include two knifepoint robberies by a masked, white man at Westown Pharmacy on April 4 and April 28. Police also suspect Faunce of a burglary at the same pharmacy on May 15.
A man who fits his description also robbed a pharmacy in Plymouth, local police said. In all cases, prescription pain medication was stolen.
Manchester police decided to use technology to find the man, placing a tracking device inside a 'bait bottle' of Vicodin at the Westown Pharmacy. They were notified of yet another burglary at the pharmacy at about 11:20 p.m. Thursday, and they began to track the bottle on a computer.
Faunce was in custody this morning on $500,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned in Superior Court in Manchester today.
