Sun Extends Contract For Thibault
The Connecticut Sun announced today that the team has redone the contract of head coach Mike Thibault, which was due to expire at the end of this season. The team reworked the terms for this season and extended it through 2009, with a team option for 2010. Terms of the deal were not announced.
Thibault is the only coach the Sun have ever had, signing on in 2003 when the franchise moved from Orlando to Connecticut. The Sun have made the playoffs each season under Thibault, advancing to the conference finals four times and the championship series twice.
'We've been working on this for awhile,' Thibault said, 'and I'm happy that it's done. I enjoy working here and have been very happy with the experience.' Both of Thibault's assistants, Scott Hawk and Bernadette Mattox, also received contract extensions.
The Sun open the season Saturday at home against the expanion Atlanta Dream at 4 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
