Tribune restaurant critic There's a certain absurdity in leaving the Chicago area to search for interesting restaurants, but a couple of weeks ago, that was my mission. This is, after all, the beginning of road-trip season, however astronomic gas prices might be. Most of us are going to be on the road at some point this summer, and we're going to be hungry.
So I uncovered a trio of places with charm and accomplished food, well worth a quick stop or, in one case, a 25-mile detour. With any luck, I'll uncover some more as the season wears on.
