62-year old woman shot, injured by Howard County police
A 62-year-old woman was injured this afternoon when she was shot by police who responded to the senior citizen apartment complex in Columbia where she lived, according to Howard County police.
The woman, whose name was not released, was 'acting erratically' and officers who responded felt threatened, said Sherry Llewellyn, a police spokeswoman. A knife was recovered at the scene, Llewellyn said.
The woman, a resident at Park View at Snowden River, was injured in the lower torso and was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, Llewellyn said. Her injury was not considered life-threatening.
Police said a property manager at the facility in the 8600 block of Snowden River Parkway called 911 around 4:30 p.m. to report a disturbance in one of the 99 units. Police responded and called in the mobile crisis unit, Llewellyn said.
A family member of the woman was in the unit at the time of the shooting, Llewellyn said.
