Meanwhile, an eighth grader from Heritage Middle School in Deltona has been arrested after he allegedly yelled out there was a bomb on his bus.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office charged a 14-year-old with making a false bomb report, a felony, Wednesday afternoon, Sherriff's officials said today. The boy was taken to the Volusia Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Daytona Beach.
Officials at the detention center said that because of the teen's age, they could not verify whether he was still in their custody.
About 3 p.m. Wednesday, deputies were dispatched to Deed Circle and Fort Smith Boulevard, where a school bus had been pulled over and evacuated after a student yelled there was a bomb on the bus. Deputies interviewed the about 17 students and at least one indicated the teen had said there was a bomb on the bus, Sheriff's officials said.
The teen told authorities he was simply commenting about another student who had been suspended for making a false bomb report, officials said.
The school district notified parents and sent the children home on another bus while a bomb-sniffing dog inspected the vehicle. The canine didn't find anything suspicious onboard.
