Westbrook Fun Days had Less than perfect weather

Despite the wet and windy weather on Saturday the annual Fun Days celebration went off without hardly a hitch.
Although a couple events were rescheduled for Sunday. The National Guard climbing wall and obstacle course had to be moved to Sunday afternoon. The fire works display scheduled for Saturday night was postponed until Sunday evening.
A heavy rain shower put the parade on hold for a few minutes on Saturday, but it got under way with a couple of brief showers during the parade. Despite the blustery weather most events were deemed a success.
Focus of the event was on raising funds for a Veterans Memorial in the City Park. Although some of the events benefited other things.
Thursday night the Kiwanis sponsored a Evening of Praise, as Trinity Lutheran Church featuring the Sunderman sisters. Following the program pie and ice cream was served.
Friday afternoon festivities got going with a three person scramble golf tournament at Rolling Hills Golf Club.
In the evening the Miss Westbrook and Little Miss Scholarship Program was held in the high school auditorium. The street dance was held following the Miss Westbrook Program in front of the VFW club. Dancers enjoyed swinging to the tunes of the Cold Brew.
Saturday morning:
* Bargain hunters enjoyed rummage sales throughout the city. Downtown businesses were hawking their wares at the Main Street Crazy Daze.
* Sand Volleyball Tour-nament was held in the park with several teams competing.
* Summer Olympics was in the park, and face painting by the girl scouts.
* Beer garden was under the tent in the park. Bingo was held in the beer garden tent by the Westbrook Area Volunteers.
* FFA sponsored a Whopper Feed in the park.
Saturday afternoon:
* Bingo was held in the beer garden sponsored by the Westbrook Area Volunteers.
* Westbrook Heritage House was open for visitors.
* Parade began with floats, local units, and lots of fire trucks, tractors and cars. Following the parade The Westbrook Women's Club sponsored a Hardee's Roast Beef feed in the park.
* Bean Bag Tournament was held by the beer garden, and also Karaoke.
Sunday:
*Ecumenical Community Church Service held at Trinity Lutheran Church.
*Belgian Waffle feed held at the fire hall sponsored by the fire department.
*The National Guard climbing wall and obstacle course was set up for youngsters to use.
*A co-ed kickball tourney was held Sunday afternoon.
*Sunday evening was perfect for the fire works display postponed from Saturday.
All in all it was a very enjoyable celebration for the community. A big tip of the hat to the Westbrook Women's Club for their time in organizing it, and to all the other organizations who had a part in the celebration.
