New Reserve Ranger; Father Matt Leaving
SOCORRO, New Mexico (STPNS) -- John Pierson has been appointed acting Reserve District Ranger for the National Forest Service. Pierson, a Quemado resident, has been in the Forest Service since 1988.
He and his wife of 15 years have two boys, ages nine and 12.
"I plan to maintain district operations and continue a good working relationship with the county and public," John said.
Instructor B.A. Peters conducts two classes in Reserve at the Community Center. She directs a line dancing class from 4 to 5 p.m. every Tuesday. Students enjoy an opportunity to improve cardio conditions and learn the latest and popular line dances. She also teaches an exercise/abdominal strength training class from 3 to 4 p.m. every Tuesday.
Participants improve physical fitness in a fun and caring atmosphere. All ages are welcomed to classes and she can be reached at 533-6027 for additional information.
The participants in a recent exercise and strength training classincluded Peters, Jan Zinzer, Cynthia McDonald, Jean Piefer, Vernice Mayhill, Rose Terrill, Dorothy Reagan, Sally Wisler, Joy Wade and Ernie Padilla.
Jeremy D. Vaughan, state police officer, will be transferring from the Quemado Subdistrict to the Albuquerque Criminal Investigations Division as of April 2008.
"I have been assigned to Quemado for five years and have enjoyed every minute with our West Patrol. Thanks for the opportunity to contribute," Vaughan said. Congratulations, Jeremy and good luck!
Father Matt Kellar has been reassigned to Gallup as the vocations director for Gallup Diocese.
Father Matt served as the pastor for St. Francis in Reserve, Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary in Datil, Santo Nino in Aragon, and Sacred Heart in Quemado.
"It's hard for me to leave," said Father Matt. "I know the people of these communities will continue and encourage others to work in the Christian spirit."
An appreciation luncheon was Sunday, March 31. Many people thanked him for all he has done for the communities and wished him well in his new position. Messages for Father Matt can be sent to 575-863-4406. Father Jeff King is the new pastor. The mass schedule has been changed to the following:
Datil 4 p.m. Saturday
Aragon 9 a.m. Sunday
