Linda Coon Files for Re-election to County Treasurer Position

ALMA, Kansas (STPNS) -- Linda Coon, Alma, has filed for the position of Wabaunsee County Treasurer. Linda has served in the capacity for one term.
Linda and her husband, Bill, have been married for 31 years. They have two grown children, a son and a daughter, and two grandsons.
"I have worked in this office for 22 years. I trained for over 19 years under the previous county treasurer until her retirement," Coon said.
She continued by listing her additional qualifications by saying that she has completed 48 hours of certification classes offered through the Kansas County Treasurers' Association and the Docking Institute of Pubic Affairs of Ft. Hays State University.
Coon added that there is a wide range of duties for a county treasurer.
"The tax, vehicle and driver's license are continually changing. My previous experience has helped me immensely," Coon added.
Linda is a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Wamego, currently serving on the Mission Council and the Stewardship Committee. She is a member of the Kansas County Officials Association and the Kansas County Treasurers' Association where she is serving on the Audit Committee and the Elections Committee. She is also a member of the National Association of County Collectors, Treasurers and Finance Officers.
Coon listed the following items as accomplishments her office has achieved during her current term: acceptance of credit and debit cards for payment and acceptance of online real and personal property tax payments, She has participated in circulating a petition of U.S. Congress to review the guideline for security to enable Kansas County Treasurers to continue offering basic drivers license services at the county level. She added that she was privileged to be a part of a group from the Kansas County Treasurers' Association that presented their petitions to Representative Jerry Moran at the Kansas Capital.
"I am in the process of getting a vehicle estimator installed in the treasurers section of the county website. This will allow individuals to get figures estimating title, registration and property tax fees on vehicles they are considering purchasing or have purchased. We have been giving those estimates by phone for many years, but this will be available 24 hours a day," Coon said.
"I enjoy serving the citizens of Wabaunsee County. It has been my home for most of my life. My favorite part of the job is being able to personally know so many of our residents. I hope to be allowed the privilege to continue serving!" Coon added.
