Georgia Ruth Doherty
RATON, New Mexico (STPNS) -- Georgia Ruth Doherty, 90, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack April 17, 2008, at Miners' Colfax Medical Center.
She was born in Trinidad Sept. 18, 1917, to Margaret (McAlister) and Marvin Hudson. Georgia attended area schools and graduated from Branson (Colo.) High School in 1934. Following graduation, she attended TSJC where she was recently honored for her achievements.
She then attended Greeley Teacher's College where she received her degree in education. Georgia taught in a rural one-room school, then in Trinchera, Colo., and later at Branson, where she taught in the special education program.
In 1940, Georgia was united in marriage to Arthur E. Fouret, who was killed during World War II?in 1944. On April 7, 1947, Georgia married William Owen Doherty in Trinchera. Together with her husband, they moved to the family ranch at Emery Gap in 1951, where they raised registered Hereford cattle.
She was past president of the Colorado Cowbelles, past president of the Branson PTA and a member of the Branson Trinchera Community Club.
Preceding Georgia in death were her husband William O. Doherty on July 18, 2007; son John James Doherty on Sept 10, 1999, and brothers Murph Hudson and Elridge Hudson.
Survivors are three daughters, Judy (Les)?Alexander of Denver, Mary Margaret (Gary)?Wright of Denver, and Georgia Ann (Bill Lockridge of Georgetown, Ky.; one son, William Joseph "Bill"?(Janice)?Doherty of Walters, Okla.; daughter-in-law Shirley Jeffers of Folsom; six grandsons, Patrick Doherty, Matthew (Ginger)?Doherty, Zachary Doherty and Connor Doherty, all of Folsom, Jason Crews of Denver and Joe (Sally)?Doherty of Lubbock, Texas; two great grandsons, William Thomas Doherty and Hudson Alexander Doherty; two great granddaughters, Sarah Beth Doherty and Meredith Grace Doherty; sisters- and brothers-in-law Charline McDermott of Ojal, Calif., and John?Franklin "Tanky"?(Joan)?Doherty of Trinchera. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Comi Funeral Home Chapel in Trinidad.
Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Sunday, April 20, at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Folsom. Funeral Mass will be Monday, April 21, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Folsom with Father John Shedlock as the celebrant. Interment with Rite of Committal will follow in the Folsom Catholic Cemetery.
Active pallbearers are grandsons Patrick Matthew, Zachary, Connor and Joe Doherty, and Jason Crews, and special great nephew Dan Doherty.
The family respectfully requests the omission of flowers and donatoons be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, c/o St. Francis Xavier Church, 115 N. First St., Clayton NM?88415.
