Gardening And History Workshops In Magdalena
SOCORRO, New Mexico (STPNS) -- Living in the high desert makes water usage an important consideration in any landscaping or gardening.
There will be a workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Magdalena Village Hall.
Participants can learn about drip irrigation systems that significantly reduce the water needed to maintain plants their yards.
Omar Qureshi, who owns and operates Nanise Native Plants and Education in Magdalena, will be the presenter.
A second workshop will focus on the history and origin of the Alamo people.
Jackson Pino, an Alamo historian and teacher, will talk about the rich history and origin of the Navajo People before the Long Walk.
That workshop will be held at 6 p.m. May 7 at the same location. A third workshop will focus on ranch life in Magdalena in the 1930s, 40s and 50s.
Tom and Hilda Kelly, who own a ranch in Water Canyon, will provide a glimpse of what it was like growing up in Magdalena and being a young couple ranching in the 40s and 50s.
The workshop is scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 13, also at the Magdalena Village Hall.
The programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Magdalena Library and are free and open to the public.
