Groves Celebrates Centennial +1

SPEARMAN, Texas (STPNS) -- Altha Groves was born March 19, 1907, in Borden County, TX to Edwin and Lacrecia Groves
Altha and her parents moved to Spearman about 1924, where they bought a farm approximately 3 miles east of town. Since the death of her father in 1959, she has continued to operate the farm through rental, raising wheat and milo.
Altha has been an active member of First Baptist Church in Spearman, taking part in several mission trips to Matamoros, Mexico, to give aid to an orphanage there.
Altha has been well known in the community through raising parakeets and canaries while on the farm, and selling Tupperware for years. She has also provided room and board for several local school teachers.
She is perhaps best known through her work as a nurses aid for many years (until sometime after 1974) at Hansford County Hospital, and her many hours of service in caring for sick friends and relatives.
Although never marrying and having children of her own, she has been "Aunt Altha" to many friends and relatives who love her kind and jovial spirit, and who have been inspired by her genuine Christian example.
A party will be held in her honor at Hansford Manor on Monday, March 19th at 1:30 p.m. All wishing to help her celebrate this milestone are encouraged to attend.
