SPEARMAN, Texas (STPNS) -- The Skaggs', editors of multiple newspapers throughout Lipscomb County, were known for their unusual writing styles.
Lovella found a recent one that, as discovered in the next week's issue, was a very unusual way to announce that the fellow was getting married. I submitted the two articles for your thoughts and amusement.
August 21, 1913: Phil Scott, one of Lipscomb's busy young people has been so darned busy the past few weeks that he has not been in sight so much as he use to. We're just betting its a sign that something will "break out" before long because we seen a white dog come down the street the other morning following a white horse and then chased a white cat through the north window of a white house that chased a white hen through a white gate that was eating white corn out of a white pail with a white handle.
August 28, 1913: Adieu to Single Lonesomeness. Once more, the magic wand of cupid has been waved over the heads of two of Lipscomb's young people, but this time it has touched upon the fates of an industrious, painstaking and hustling pair. At the hour of nine, Wednesday evening at the parlor of Mr. and Mrs. John Edgar occurred the marriage of Miss Ruby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Hurhlhey, to Mr. Phillip C. Scott, both of this place. Justice J.N. Theisen officiating.
The groom, Mr. Scott, having lived in this community for a number of years has won many friends through honest and straight dealings among his fellow men and well filled for the position he has chosen. The bride, Miss Ruby, though but young in years, has accomplishments that well fits her for the responsibilities of mistress of the house. The young couple for the time being will make their future home in Lipscomb.
Lime Light joins with many others in wishing the young couple well in their newly formed partnership.
