- Recordnet.com is providing Stockton, California residents with a little July 4th spirit in the wake of the city's decision to cancel its largest fireworks display.
The site recently launched an interactive fireworks feature titled Fireworks over Stockton. Visitors to the fireworks application click the sky above a photo of downtown Stockton to launch a colorful, vibrant fireworks display.
'We thought it was unfortunate that the community's July 4 tradition was scrapped due to the economy,' said Ian Hill, the Recordnet.com Web content producer who developed Fireworks over Stockton. 'As a member of this community, we thought we should do what we could so that local residents should still enjoy an important Independence Day celebration.'
Recordnet.com Online Editor Tara Cuslidge agreed, adding that the fireworks adds a new interactive element to the Web site. For previous holidays, the online staff has built interactive pumpkins for carving, and snowmen for viewers to dress.
'The fireworks offer a new way for our community to interact on Recordnet.com,' said Cuslidge. 'We hope viewers take advantage of the fun feature.'
Fireworks over Stockton is online now and will continue to be offered after the holiday. Readers can also revisit the city's budget debate at Recordnet's Stockton Budget Crisis page. During the deliberations, Hill also created and interactive budget calculator, allowing readers to participate in an exercise to balance the Stockton budget themselves.
