- Recent statistics suggest that minorities face sentencing in federal courts at a proportionally higher rate than non-minorities, said Kansas City Attorney Christopher Angles, who is prepared to represent defendants on either side of the state line who face charges in a federal criminal court in the Kansas City area.
'It's clear that changes to immigration law are increasing the number of Hispanic defendants in federal criminal courts,' Angles said, citing a recent report by the Pew Hispanic Center. 'In 2007, for example, Latinos accounted for 40% of all sentenced federal offenders nationally. Keep in mind, they comprise only 13% of the population in this country. That is staggering.'
Angles is a Kansas City attorney who represents defendants in federal criminal courts and says it's important for people who might be facing federal charges to consult with an attorney as soon as possible because:
* Federal charges carry tougher sentencing guidelines than do state or other crimes.
* Federal cases are tried on a much faster timeline than are state or other criminal cases.
* Federal investigators are trained to elicit incriminating statements at the outset.
Kansas City federal criminal defense attorney Christopher Angles has experience and expertise in defending people who are charged with crimes in federal criminal courts in Kansas or Missouri.
