Husband charged in store slaying
A 53-year-old Myrtle Beach man was charged with murder Wednesday in the slaying of his wife, an area pharmacist, at the convenience store he owned in Socastee.
Asghar Eliaderani is being held without bail at J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway. Meanwhile, the couple's son and daughter - 10 and 16, respectively - are in the custody of the S.C. Department of Social Services, police reported.
Horry County Coroner Robert Edge said Farah Abbasi, 40, died about 3 p.m. Tuesday at Conway Hospital after being in a coma for about a day and a half.
The exact cause of her death has not been determined. Edge said an autopsy originally scheduled for Wednesday will be performed today.
Police said Abbasi's death was the result of a domestic violence incident that happened Sunday at the Socastee Mini Mart at 8545 S.C. 544.
Eliaderani has owned the business for at least 10 years, according to the Horry County Business License Department.
Eliaderani was arrested Tuesday after he was released from Conway Hospital, and on Wednesday he was formally charged.
When Horry County Police Department officers went to the Socastee Mini Mart, Eliaderani was coming out of the store covered in blood on his left side, according to an incident report.
Police ordered Eliaderani to stay outside and they went into the business to check on Abbasi, according to the report.
Officers followed a trail of blood around the store's counter and found Abbasi behind it, lying on her back, according to the report.
The Socastee Mini Mart remained a crime scene Wednesday morning and was not open for business. Police tape remained on the front of the building.
Abbasi was a pharmacist in good standing, according to the S.C. Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Web site, which shows she was associated with CVS Pharmacy at 3710 U.S. 17 Bypass in Murrells Inlet.
A representative contacted at CVS on Wednesday referred questions to the corporate office.
