East St. Louis man convicted of killing McDonald's employee
A 22-year-old man was convicted Wednesday in the killing of a McDonald's employee in December in East St. Louis.
Jarvis Boose, of 2338 Illinois Ave., East St. Louis, was convicted of first-degree murder and attempted robbery of Darrel Britton, 26, of East St. Louis, in Circuit Judge John Baricevic's courtroom.
East St. Louis Detective Michael Floore said he was 'glad to bring some closure to the Britton family. Unfortunately, it's a sad case for both families.'
While Britton was returning from a store near his home, he was accosted and shot, said Floore, one of two detectives who worked on the case.
'He walked to the store inside of the gas station at 25th and Louisiana. His home is right around the corner from the store. As he was walking back, Boose approached him with a gun he took from a friend. Boose attempted to rob him. And, he shot him in the head once,' said East St. Louis Detective Ricky Perry, a second detective who worked on the case.
Britton was employed by McDonald's restaurant located at North 25th Street and State Street in East St. Louis.
Britton was found lying in the street in the 400 block of North 26th Street early in the morning on Dec. 22. He died about two months later.
'I am happy we have closure and the case has come to an end, but, we have two grieving families now. It's a sad case for both families,' Perry said.
Boose will be sentenced April 23. He remains in the St. Clair County Jail.
