A 30-year-old Augusta man was killed late Sunday night when he was hit by a semitrailer truck on U.S. 54 west of Augusta.
The man had crossed the four-lane highway on foot from north to south next to Towakoni Road, about four miles west of Augusta, Butler County Sheriff Craig Murphy said. He then was walking back north when he was hit in the westbound lanes by a UPS truck.
The victim was dead at the scene, Murphy said. His name is being withheld until later today.
