Kia among employers coming to job fair
A major job fair coming up Feb. 7 in Columbus has attracted one high-profile employer that definitely is in a hiring mode -- Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia.
Seoul, South Korea-based Kia is looking to fill about 2,500 jobs at its 2.4 million-square-foot auto assembly plant in West Point, Ga., about 45 minutes north of Columbus.
The automaker, which will manufacture the redesigned 2010 Sorento sports utility vehicle in West Point, is taking online applications via its Web site, www.kiajobsin georgia.com, through Feb. 7.
But the Georgia Department of Labor just received confirmation that Kia will be recruiting at the job fair, Walter Pollock, veterans employment representative with the department's Columbus Career Center, said Thursday.
The job fair will take place 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Columbus Convention & Trade Center, 801 Front Ave.
More than 50 employers have committed to the event so far, Pollock said. The fair typically draws up to 150 employers and 4,000 to 5,000 job seekers.
Employers wishing to participate in the job fair, which is sponsored by Clear Channel Radio, should contact the Columbus Career Center at 706-649-7435.
