Driver who hit patrol car charged
Clay County authorities have charged a motorist with second-degree assault for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and crashing his pickup into an unmarked patrol car.
Richard J. Williams, 41, of Excelsior Springs, is accused of entering the intersection of Route B and U.S. 69 in Liberty on Friday and crashing into a Clay County sheriff's detective vehicle, according to court records.
The detective, Matthew Hunter, suffered injuries to his pelvis and spine.
