New tentative deal reached between Purolator, Teamsters
- Purolator Courier Ltd. and the Teamsters union have reached a second tentative agreement, averting a potential strike.
Teamsters spokesman Stephane Lacroix says that with the help of a federal mediator, the company and the union reached a deal Wednesday night, 24 hours before a strike deadline.
About 10,000 Purolator truck drivers, package handlers, couriers and other workers had been poised to walk off the job at 11:59 p.m. ET Thursday, after rejecting an earlier tentative agreement reached March 27.
Lacroix says the new agreement is being unanimously recommended by the bargaining committee.
He says a ratification vote will be scheduled within the next few weeks and the results should be known by the end of the month.
Stephen Gould, senior vice-president, human resources for Purolator says it's business as usual for the company.
