Kitchener Frame auto parts plant may close in 2009, ending hundreds of jobs
- The auto parts firm Kitchener Frame says its plant in Kitchener, Ont., will close in April 2009 if it doesn't secure more work, putting about 800 more jobs in jeopardy in Ontario's troubled auto industry.
The Kitchener Frame plant, owned by Martinrea International Inc., assembles frames for mid-sized sport utility vehicles.
Martinrea bought the Kitchener plant in 2006 as part of the purchase of the metal stamping operations of ThyssenKrupp Budd Co..
The Canadian Auto Workers union represents about 800 plant and office staff working at the plant. Hundreds of others have already been laid off.
