Police Find 15 Pit Bulls In Trailer In Robbins
A Robbins man was arrested Friday afternoon after Cook County Sheriff's police found 15 pit bulls living in a tiny trailer. Police say three pit bulls killed a fourth dog during the search.
Sheriff's police Special Operations officers found James Foster living with15 pit bull dogs in a trailer in Robbins, located at the back of a vehicle junkyard. Foster told police he served as the security officer of the business and often lived in the trailer, according to a release from the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
Foster was charged with 15 counts of misdemeanor animal abuse for keeping the dogs living in squalor and 15 counts of owners' responsibility for not providing the dogs with proper veterinary care, the release said.
Police found the one-room trailer strewn with feces and urine and without heat, water or electricity, with the dogs ranging in age from 6 weeks to about 4 years old.
Foster told police he was breeding and selling the dogs. Police believe Foster has been conducting the business for nearly four years and was possibly breeding the dogs for fighting purposes, the release said.
The dogs were ultimately removed by animal welfare league officials and taken to two animal shelters where they were given food and medical attention, the release said.
Foster is being held in Sheriff's Police custody pending a Saturday morning bond hearing at the Markham Courthouse.
