Does Wal-Mart Use of Check Cards for Pay Purposes Violate Wage Payment Laws?

The Wall Street Journal reported two days ago : Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the nation's largest private employer, is eliminating paper payroll checks in the U.S., transferring workers' earnings to a debit card if they decline direct deposit to a bank.

This is one of the smartest things for the world, imagine the paper savings. From my personal experience 90%+ of workers already have direct deposit, with no need for check stubs. I use to have 60 associates and 3 actually received a live check and eveyone that had direct deposit could care less if they received there stub, if they needed it for something they could print it online.

My current work place does this (autodealer).... so did the place before(Kmart)...

I think it's a great idea, provided that the debit card can be used over again as more funds are added. It should be similar to the debit card provided when you have a bank account.
