Aspiring nurse has the remedy for boring style
WHO: Milly Ramos, 21, a behavioral science student at Wilmington University, aspiring to be a nurse; also works at Foot Locker and PNC Bank. WHY: 'She is absolutely gorgeous and very, very trendy,' says her boyfriend, Jarrett Johnson, who nominated her. 'She gets these comments randomly everywhere she goes. She is a wholesome young lady with a classy, trendy style. I try to keep up with her in the fashion department so we can complement each other, but she blows me out of the water every time (which is not a problem).' Wearing, around Planet Fitness and Shipyard Shops: First outfit -- Gray jeans and fur jacket from Nordstrom, jean shirt from H&M and shoes from Jeffrey Campbell. Second outfit -- blazer and pants from Urban Outfitters, shirt from H&M and shoes from Jeffrey Campbell. Third outfit -- Dress from Nordstrom, blazer from H&M and shoes from Baker's. Where she shops: Nordstrom, H&M, Urban Outfitters. How she describes her style: 'It's regal, chic, elegant. I can be casual, but I like to mix it up. I don't like to be boring.' Dad led the charge: 'I'm the only girl in my family, and my dad took me shopping, of course, because he had the credit card. My dad used to be my right-hand man when I was little. We had that extra bond because anytime I needed something, my dad was there and so was the credit card. He won't give me the credit card anymore. I have my own job and my own money. Those good days are over.' Shopping solo: 'I've learned to start shopping by myself. When I was younger, I'd go to the mall with my girls, but I'm trying to be different in a sense, so I don't want to be like, 'Oh she got the shirt I wanted.' I'd rather go by myself and take my time.' On outgrowing sneakers: 'I always used to wear sneakers all the time. I started at Foot Locker at the age of 16. I used to have three pairs of the same all-white sneakers -- one was dirty, so I'd buy another pair the same. When I stopped working there as much, I had to wean myself off. I grew up. I knew I couldn't just be the girl who always wore sneakers.' And growing into herself: 'What really got me into fashion was just being with my girls and how we used to go out and see other females. When I graduated from high school, it was party over here, party over there, Milly was everywhere. It was like, 'I've got to get something new for that, something new for that.'' Beautiful, not sexy: 'The 'too-sexy' part was never in my head. I try to be more beautiful than sexy. It's OK to show a little bit, but not to the point where it's all out there. That comes from respecting myself. And I have to respect my boyfriend if he's with me. I don't want dudes looking at me like, 'She's this, or 'She's that.' And then I have to leave the house, and my dad's looking at me like, 'Where is she going?'' Pulling it all together: In the morning, 'it's all over the place. My shirt's on this side of the room. The pants are on that side. The shoes are in the closet in the other room. My mind's always in four different directions. Sometimes if I have to run from work to go to school, I wear a shirt where I know it'll be easier for me to go home and throw on jeans. I'll be in class and just looking through Ralph Lauren online. My body's in class but my mind is shopping online.' Ration conquers fashion passion: 'I love shoes, shoes and shoes. My boyfriend hates me because I'm so into shoes that it's all I think about. I have a couple of pairs of Jeffrey Campbells. I love the way Christian Louboutin shoes are, but they're like $6,000. What I could do with $6,000 -- there's no point in me buying those. That's a whole semester at school! I could buy a pair of shoes and Burlington Coat Factory, and I could be fine, and my outfit could become out complete.' Being bold: 'I'm just starting to be a little bit daring with stuff. I just bought this bodysuit. I love it. I haven't worn it yet, but I can't wait to get into it. I know myself, in a million years I wouldn't have done that if I wasn't into fashion. I think my confidence in fashion has grown. Now it's like, 'I can do this.' Inspiration, but not imitation: 'When I look at magazines -- GQ, Vanity Fair -- I'll look at it and say, 'How can I improve that? How can I make it fit me?' I can get that shirt, but I can eliminate that piece and substitute this. You can play with colors, play with your hair. Everything that's on your face and down to your toes, that's fashion. Fashion has grown to where it has no boundaries. Just have fun with it.'
