This is the ultimate cop-out...no pun intended...either Cuomo let a vicious multiple homicide killer go free or Cuomo is letting a vicious multiple homicide killer remain free. In my opinion, Marty Tankleff was a drugged out, rich-punk teenager that couldn't remember what color his eyes were at the time of the murder. He confessed after being browbeat by the detectives because he was intimidated and probably wasn't sure what he did that day. He really didn't know the consequences of his so-called "confession". This Steuerman character was partners with Marty's dad in a bagel business and apparently owed Tankleff a bunch of money. He just happened to disappear on after the murders. He abandoned his car, shaved his beard, got a new do, used pseudonyms in travel, hid out in motels, left suicide notes, communicated in code, etc... In my opinion Steuerman is guilty as sin...or guilty of something.

Oh yeah, Mcready is a lousy degenerate incompetent Irish cop, who gives a bad name to incompetent Irish cops. F.U. to all of you who think to disagree!

Good attempt at downplaying the issue but this just reminds us of one important thing. Not a good idea to talk to the police about anything and in any capacity without first consulting a lawyer. A person has no obligation and absolutely nothing to gain by talking to the police about anything. As we see, an overzealous detective with questionable experience and tactics can almost singularly ruin a man's life.

In my opinion Steuerman is guilty as sin...or guilty of something. YOUR opinion and anyone who disagrees gets an FU? SOMEONE murdered two people. Or, more than one person murdered two people. Simpson murdered two people-there is no 'someone' did it - he did it. He spent NO time in jail-was acquitted. Hopefully Simpson will go to jail for unrelated things-he's already spent a little time here and there-but not enough. Tankleff needs to keep a low profile, get his degree and if he's guilty he's learned to live with it. If he's not-he was in jail for close to 18 years for crime he didn't commit. Andrew Cuomo does not have enough information to go after anyone else and retrying Tankleff would have been very 'unpopular'. The Bagel man Steuerman knows it all-if he was involved being a psychopath helps-he has no conscience. On to the next huge profile case....

Congradulations on your victory!. It's just a shame that it came 20 years too late. Now you need to pursue your ambitions and dreams.

A great day for Martin Tankleff. I learned of his story when Court TV aired an episode of "The Wrong Man" featuring Marty. I'm sure his parents are looking down from heaven with relief.

Good for you Marty! This poor man had to waste half of his life in prison. I pray the remainder of his years are happy and he gets everything he wishes for! I hope his half sister rots!

I have followed this case from the beginning and there is no way I can believe that Jerard Steuerman was not involved. His explanation about disappearing immediately after the murders is afarce. Also, what about Marty's sister: she blew through her inheritance like smoke in the wind. She also should have been considered a suspect because she had just as much motive. Like Peter Reilly before him, Marty Tankleff was railroaded. In case of arrest, everyone should remember four words that strike fear into the hearts of police and prosecutors alike: I WANT A LAWYER!!!!

This is a classic case of "who done it". I used to believe Marty was innocent. There are few facts that make me think he is not. For one--his unhappiness with the way things were at home, his parents constant fighting; if you look at the video from Newsday you will hear Marty say he was in prison only with his body, but his mind/spirit were not there. Was his body only there in Belle Terre the morning of the murders and not his mind. He resented his parents telling him what to do. Also this didn't come up in the trial but I heard his step-sister say the Will regarding the Tankleff estate was forged. Arlene forged the fathers signature. It wasn't all about the money though--Marty couldn't inherit until he was 25. It was about his unhappiness at home, he wanted to go away to college; they wouldn't let him. A lot of in-fighting with the parents as Arlene always took Marty's side, then switched to the fathers. Im not saying Marty is guilty. Steureman could have done this murder by himself. He was still there at 3 am. I was watching the video of Tankleff saying he came home to a loving, caring home in January 2008. He didn't feel that way about his home in Belle Terre. I will be interested to read a book his step-sister writes IF she writes one. I would say this case is still unsolved, but if Marty is innocent, then Im happy for him. Suffolk sure did all they could to keep him locked up. They never investigated Steureman or took his blood samples or checked his body for marks. So its anyone's game.

I don't believe his step-sister (she was Seymour's daughter by a previous marriage) is or was a suspect. She was married, living out of the house and got along well with her father. She did not like Arlene though. She was left a small amount of money and jewelry in the Will, which she alleges was forged. She had her own life. Steureman is the one that should have been hauled down to the police department and questioned by someone other than his long-term friend McCready. I still say the case is unsolved.

All cops are crooks. Most of them are lazy crooks. When lazy crooks chase scummy people around, and then ultra-criminal lawyers get involved, weird things happen.
