Suffolk Bancorp in Riverhead, N.Y., has filled its vacant chief financial officer position by hiring from a former competitor.

The 30-branch, Riverhead-based financial institution on Tuesday said the appointment takes effect immediately at Suffolk Bancorp and its banking subsidiary, Suffolk County National Bank.

Suffolk Bancorp, the parent company of Suffolk County National Bank, on Tuesday reported $1.2 million in earnings, down 62.3 percent from $3.1 million a year ago.

The Riverhead-based bank said on Jan. 19 that the board's audit committee decided not to retain Grant Thornton , its current auditor, for the fiscal year ended Dec.
