Spirit Airlines said Monday that it's promoting the start of its service this week in the Twin Cities by giving away 2,000 certificates for frequent flyer bonus miles.

Spirit Airlines earned $134 million in 2011 from baggage fees. According to the Sun Sentinel, the Miramar-based airline, which was the first airline to charge for carry-on luggage, had a 63 percent increase in baggage fee collections from the $82 million it earned in 2010.
