The national parks are being squeezed by federal budget cuts, reducing hours and leading many of them to close their gates.

Nearly $200,000 in funding to help high school teachers and their students gain a better grasp of national parks, and a sense of stewardship for them, has been made possible by the National Park Foundation and the University of Phoenix.

The National Park Foundation has awarded a $20,000 grant to Pocono Environmental Education Center and Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area to promote local exploration of park facilities.

Disney's investment will go specifically to the National Park Foundation's " Ticket to Ride " program, which helps students explore the outdoors by providing transportation to national parks around the country.

Today, Representatives Mike Michaud and Chellie Pingree welcomed news that Acadia National Park would receive a $25,000 grant from the National Park Foundation to support an education program that brings middle school students and teachers to the park.
