Crown Media Holdings chief executive Henry Schleiff calls it his 'hat trick.'
The parent company of the Hallmark Channel said Wednesday that it had a cut a deal with DirecTV for the satellite network to continue to carry the family channel. The deal follows similar agreements last month with Time Warner Cable and in November with Comcast Corp.
Analysts were concerned last year that Crown Media, which is based in Studio City, Calif., was faced with renewing more than half of its cable and satellite licenses at the end of 2007. Kansas City-based Hallmark Cards is a majority owner of Crown Media. Read more

MGP Inc. gets $8 million settlement
MGP Ingredients Inc. has received an $8 million settlement stemming from a lawsuit accusing M&Ms maker Mars Inc. of stealing trade secrets and interfering in a third-party business relationship.
The lawsuit centered on the popular dog treats Greenies.
Atchison-based MGP filed a lawsuit in July 2006 alleging that Mars had infringed on a patent it owned to make the dog treats and that Mars had infringed on a contract it had with North Kansas City-based S&M NuTec LLC, which developed Greenies and which was acquired by Mars in April 2006. Read more

MGP gets $8 million in patent suit settlement
MGP Ingredients Inc. has received an $8 million settlement related to a lawsuit against Mars Inc. and others over the formulation it developed to make the popular pet treats, Greenies.
The litigation, filed two years ago, was over patent infringement and contract violations. The Atchison-based company, which makes food ingredients and distillery products, said it used the settlement to reduce its debt. The company also said it has granted the other parties in the litigation a non-exclusive license to use the formulation it created for Greenies. Read more
