'Gotham': TV Review

The series is set in Gotham City when there wasn't yet a Batman or a Catwoman or any of the villains and characters the Batman universe is peopled with - it's how all of that came about and it works by itself. This is one "origin story" that doesn't need the future to be realized - Fox manages to make a series that works on its own, without leaning too hard on its lineage It's a little too easy and convenient - and ultimately unfair - to say that Fox's buzz-heavy new series Gotham could face the same problems as last year's buzz-heavy entry, ABC's Agents of SHIELD.

On the Market: Dumbo Rentals Cost More Than Manhattan and Other Market Mysteries

Is Councilman Dan Garodnick the rarest of New York political creatures-a reasonable man? The Wall Street Journal profiles the councilman who might have been speaker, but despite being in the midst of his third and final term is far from a sitting duck, with his district at the center of two of the biggest real estate battles in the city: the Midtown East rezoning and the fate of Stuy-Town and Peter Cooper Village, where he is also a resident. Speaking of affordable housing battles, Brooklyn real estate prices are increasingly on par with Manhattan's, Crain's reports, citing a Streeteasy study that finds residential rents in Dumbo hitting an average of $4,000 a month.

Review: 'Gotham' Builds a Great World Despite Lacking in Narrative Excitement

I write about the television business. Why networks cancel your favorite shows, why sure things don't go to series, why the Nielsen ratings still matter, if it concerns the small screen, it concerns me too.
