I just recently did a tour of chino prison with a class that im taking and it was really over crowded... they had blacks outside in the yard/cage sleeping due to lack of beds..many of them were yelling for our help and for us to tell arnoid to go see it for himself after the riot.... and inside they had inmates all cramed up in small spaces!! those correctional officers have alot of balls to be working at that prison. some of them really deserve what they get but not all.

Every other state in The Union can manage to house prisoners for MUCH less than we do here in California. Some states, such as Texas and Florida, spend only a third as much per prisoner as we spend.

Instead of sending our prisoners to other states, what we should be doing is adopting their methods to radically cut prisoner expenditure here.

Totally agree with you. But sadly, we have to deal with the ACLU, NAACP, MALDEF, Al Sharpton, etc. It's never gonna happen.

Prison guards in other states do not earn the salaries and gold plated benefits that the guards in California earn nor do they earn the lavish pensions that we pay the guards in California which is why other states are able to do the job for less. Send the majority of prisoners out of state and maybe we can fire some guards to reduce costs.

INCARCERATING PEOPLE "FOR PROFIT" IS IN A WORD....WRONG!
Even if one does not ask or pretends not to see the rope and the flashing red flag draped around the philosophical question standing solemnly at attention in the middle of the room, it remains apparent that the mere presence of a private “for profit” driven prison business in our country undermines the U.S Constitution and subsequently the credibility of the American criminal justice system. In fact, until all private prisons in America have been abolished and outlawed,“the promise” of fairness and justice at every level of this country’s judicial system will remain unattainable. We must restore the principles and the vacant promise of our judicial system. Our government cannot continue to "job-out" its obligation and neglect its duty to the individuals confined in the correctional and rehabilitation facilities throughout this nation, nor can it ignore the will of the people that it was designed to serve and protect. There is urgent need for the good people of this country to emerge from the shadows of indifference, apathy, cynicism, fear, and those other dark places that we migrate to when we are overwhelmed by frustration and the loss of hope.
My hope is that you will support the National Public Service Council to Abolish Private Prisons (NPSCTAPP) with a show of solidarity by signing "The Single Voice Petition"

"The Land of the Free" Why is this just a statement that we don't live up to? Why does the United States of America have more of its population behind bars than any other country? Prison should be strictly for violent criminals only, and I don't want to pay to house them. I say make people pay fines, do community service, etc. Take the violent offenders out and let them go in the ocean, the worse the crime, the farther out. If they manage to swim back, it must be god's will. Maybe they won't want to try it again. Our prisons have become a self serving financial enterprise. We need massive reform and we need it now.

Bruce, it's because we have more Liberty than any other country, that's why.

More Liberty means more people will take advantage of their freedoms and do things they shouldn't.

Don't forget, all the money spent out of state to private contractors literally goes to that other state's economy, its taxes, its businesses, etc., because it is not spent here in California at all to be recycled back into our economy! So, if you think we are saving money, guess again, we are literally losing more money! Think about it...

Corrections Corp. of America 3Q profit jumps
(AP) 3 hours ago

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Prison operator Corrections Corp. of America said its third-quarter profit jumped 19 percent as more prisoners were locked up in its California and Arizona facilities.

The company said it earned $45.3 million in the quarter that ended Sept. 30, or 39 cents per share. That was up from $37.9 million, or 30 cents per share, during the same period last year.

Not counting an unusual tax benefit, the company would have earned 33 cents per share above the 31 cents per share average expected by analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters.

Revenue rose about 6 percent to $426 million from $403.8 million a year earlier, also topping analysts'$422.8 million forecast. The revenue increase was driven by a 4.5 percent rise in its average daily inmate population, plus a 1.3 percent increase in revenue for each person locked up one day.

Management revenue from states rose nearly 7 percent to $224.9 million as the inmate population from California and Arizona rose, partially offset by a drop in the number of prisoners in Minnesota and Washington.

The company said it expects a fourth-quarter profit of 33 cents to 35 cents per share, and a full-year profit of $1.24 to $1.26 per share, not counting special items. Analysts are expecting a profit of 34 cents per share for the fourth quarter and $1.25 per share for the year, on average.

The company said the general economy remains uncertain, and states which pay the company to lock up their prisoners are facing budget revenue shortfalls. It said its prediction includes the potential for additional pricing pressure, and the risk of population declines from some customers.

Corrections Corp. shares rose 33 cents to close earlier at $25.49, and slipped 68 cents, or 2.7 percent in late trading.

This doesnt actually fix anything in the long run. All it does is help gangs expand their territories and grow memebership. The FBI is working hard to shut this down but its just getting worse.

empty on bucket into another that'll be emptied therefrom....transferring all it does is redistribute (away from california) the wealthe and makes money pass (and trickle down) into other hands so there you have what they (the people of state of california versus) call a necessary evil of keeping those human timeshares open (like collection accounts sold and bought like clockwork)and dispersed thus keeping the economics of the prison-industrial complex thriving and surviving....come on who would really really want to be the one to ride the beef for objectively letting out one of those succkas earlier than sentenced for.....but they will be subjective as to keeping a human timeshare open at any taxpayers expense.....i guess its all about getting the money while the getting is good....fleece on and fleece some more whether things go right or left is what it seems when it comes to prisons, courts, pigs, hospitals, firefighters, politicians, all in the name of public disservice!!

Daily Horoscope for December 8

Libra

Get organized because that's the best way to be productive today. You're eager to be as efficient and practical as possible, but you won't get very far if you don't know what to do first. So draw up a list of priorities and start with the most urgent. Ideally, you should be left to your own devices while you do all this because that will aid your concentration and self-confidence.
