Earlier this month, Hercules completed the sale of all its outstanding shares of Sunnyvale-based Barrx to Covidien plc in a deal valued at $325 million.

Health-care giant Covidien is making its first foray into the field of gastroenterology by acquiring Barrx Medical for $325 million in cash .

In addition to the $325 million, Covidien , which is based in Ireland and has its U.S. headquarters in Mansfield, could pay unspecified additional earnout payments in the future if Sunnyvale-based BARRX Medical hits certain milestones.
