American Eagle Outfitters Inc. has named Levi Strauss & Co. executive Mary Boland its chief financial and administrative officer, effective July 9. The appointment comes two weeks after the clothing retailer disclosed Joan Hilson was stepping down as CFO.

The Commerce Department says sales increased 3.3 percent in April from March to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 343,000. That followed a 7.3 percent decline in March.
