The Fairhaven Dollars for Scholars awards will be given on Wednesday, June 6, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Century House in Acushnet.

A balanced budget will be presented at the June 4 annual Town Meeting next week.

Town and city officials know well the impact of health insurance on their budgets, with larger and larger bites being taken from their budgets every year.

As communities such as Acushnet and Fairhaven take advantage of the 2011 municipal health care reform law, the measure is "vastly surpassing expectations," the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation said Thursday.

PACE Head Start is currently accepting applications for the upcoming school year which will begin in September.

The town and the fort have played key military roles since the Revolution. Long before its 1812 incorporation, and for the 200 years since, Fairhaven has generously given of its men and women to America's wars.

Head Start provides a free, family-centered school readiness program for approximately 320 children ages 3-5 from income-eligible families in New Bedford, Dartmouth, Fairhaven and Acushnet.

Winners will be determined by a random drawing of those who score the most correct answers.
