Four Broadway veterans pay homage to the late Marvin Hamlisch Friday when the Samford University Signature Series opens its 2014-15 season. "One Singular Sensation! A Celebration of Marvin Hamlisch" will spotlight some of the composer's most memorable work, including "The Way We Were," "One," "What I Did For Love" and "They're Playing Our Song."

Bentley appoints new leader to replace Owens at Shelby County District Attorney's Office
Shelby County's chief assistant district attorney has been appointed to replace Robby Owens as the office's new leader. Jill Lee is taking over for Owens, who announced earlier this year he would be resigning from his job on Oct. 1 after 31 years in prosecution including nine as an assistant district attorney in Jefferson County and 22 years in Shelby County.

Alcohol sales are already underway at some locations in Oneonta, and one Blountsville grocery store could begin sales soon, after voters in those two Blount County cities approved alcohol sales referendums in June. But the legal fight to keep alcohol sales out of those two cities - and the rest of "dry" Blount County - continues.
